Change needs leadership
In times of rapid change, leadership skills are just as important as technical competence. This is where our Leadership Supply system comes into its own. Leadership Supply is a standard process within the company aimed at developing key performers at the management level. Leadership Supply follows the goal of being able to deploy the right leaders at MAN in the right place and at the right time.
All instruments of the Leadership Supply system are closely interlinked and form an integrated whole.
- Talent management
-
Talent management, i.e. the systematic recruitment of the next generation of managers, is an important part of the Leadership Supply process. Identifying suitable talent and filling vacant management positions is something that takes place primarily within the group.
- Potential review
-
Potential assessment helps us in the process of selecting suitable personalities for a leadership role at MAN. The basis for the selection process is the MAN competence model.
- Performance management
-
Processes such as agreeing on objectives and measuring the degree to which they have been achieved, as well as the resulting performance appraisal, are open and are readily understood throughout the group. Employees' objectives are derived methodically from the company's targets. This ensures that the company's goals are achieved over the long term.
- Succession management
-
Succession management ensures that there will always be a qualified manager ready to fill a vacant position. Regular evaluations are carried out to identify the future demand for managers. Potential candidates for vacant positions are presented and discussed in detail at Leadership Supply meetings.
- Leadership development
-
Leadership development at MAN entails systematically supporting the personal development of and improving the performance of managers and high potentials using appropriate instruments. The MAN Executive Academy, for example, provides tailored programs in which managers from all business areas and countries can be found. Leadership development also includes programs which focus on communicating management and leadership qualities, dialog platforms for networking and exchanging strategic ideas as well as feedback instruments.
- Leadership process
-
The focus of the leadership process is leadership on a day-to-day basis characterized by a well-developed feedback culture. Through dealing with the requirements of work and with employee performance, a manager recognizes developmental deficiencies and development potential in their area of responsibility. The core tasks of the manager in the context of the leadership process are to:
- win over staff and retain their loyalty
- recognize the potential and developmental opportunities of staff
- lead their staff with a focus on performance and results
- ensure that management positions are filled with the best candidates and that there is a supply of new management candidates and
- actively support and develop their staff
